Missing a Blog "Friend"

I have another confession to make.

I have gotten terribly addicted to blogging. Not just writing my own blog, but reading other people's blogs. It's amazing to me, that there are all these other folks out there, writing about stuff that I think about too. The vegetarian/vegan bloggers alone have an amazing little community. Then there are the political folks. Of course, I'm a big fan of the cyber feminists and BlogHers. The blogging moms blow me away with their adventures in parenting. It's a weird thing, the internet. You get to "meet" people you live thousands of miles away from. Whole virtual communities spring up around beliefs, causes, shared ideas. Blogging is such a strange hybrid too, because you feel like you sort of know a person through their posts, even though those posts are not directed at you specifically. There is an intimacy here that seems out of place sometimes and very reassuring at others.

This brings me to an interesting dilemma.

There is a woman whose blog I used to love to read. She posted almost every day, then mysteriously vanished. Was she hacked? Is she all right? I don't know. We never communicated through e-mail, I just left comments on her blog and she left comments here. I hope this doesn't come across as being nosy. I really do believe the world is a better place when people look out for each other. Especially as women, it's much better to have each other's back than to be constantly clawing each others eyes out.

So, if anyone knows or is in contact with Painter Beach Girl (or if she's reading this post), please let her know that Meesh and Marz and other folks are worried about her. We miss hearing about Chef and Red and Blue. We hope she is all right. We hope she comes back soon...

This has happened to me once or twice. On one of the occasions their profile did include an email, so I did send one and just said I missed her and that I hoped everything was OK.

In one case the blogger must have received lots of notes and comments because she posted saying she was OK, just really busy and burnt out on blogging. Although she promised to return, I don't believe she ever did. The other MIA blogger just disappeared and never came back.

Yet, you also find bloggers who post about light blogging when they're going to be away for an afternoon!! I always think...yeah, dude, I was going to slash my wrists if you didn't give me the heads up you wouldn't be posting this afternoon!!! LOL.

It's a weird balance isn't it? I guess it all depends on how often they usually post and whether or not you like their blog. :P

Another actual (read: we know each other in person) friend of mine who also lives on the East coast said that her computer caught a nasy virus and the C drive is getting eaten. So, she's off line for a while. Maybe that's what happened to my blogger buddy.

I'm addicted, too. Being vegan, sometimes you really do feel like a freak. Reading the everyday exploits of other vegans makes me feel human again.

When I was in high school in the '80s in a small, boondockian town, I had 50 pen pals from all over the world. Guess I wanted to feel connected.

The same is true of blogging. Now, I feel so connected and that I have made so many great blogger friends. I seriosuly want to have a get-together.

I've found that the older I get, the more I find that people are the same all over the world. Reading other's blogs confirms it.

Thanks Meesh, you are a better writer than I am.

blogging sure is an interesting phenomonen! to feel so close to people you haven't met -- to admire others through their writing -- to care so much through written words. i love how you expressed how i feel!! :o)

Wow, that is strange about Painter Beach Girl. She left a few comments on my blog, too..

And, I, too, am addicted to blogging. I'll admit- the first thing I do when I come home is turn on the 'puter and check blogs. LOL

I enjoy blogging because my readers motivate me to finish my work, and they encourage me to challenge myself. Thank you:)

(Oh- I used to have a pen pal in Venezuela when I was in middle school...)

Similar situations have struck me as well over the years with internet "friends." It happens in "real life" as well where we lose touch.

Losing track of someone you care about is one of the saddest parts of this thing we call life, if you ask me...

I just came to your blog for the first time, not so much because of the comment you left with The Lone Beader, but because of the rabbit picture. It's a treat to be reading words by someone who cares... cares about missing bloggers, rabbits being tested with stupid products we don't need (I could rant on this one), what we eat, etc. Thanks! I'll be back.
